The finest Opal is considered to be found in Australia. Most of the world’s Opal is mined there and the Yowah Opal found only in Queensland, is one of the rarest forms of Opal found anywhere. The Yowah colors are spectacular and can include all the colors in the spectrum. Another characteristic of Yowah Opal is their dark rim which can form a color border surrounding the fire filled interior picture. I’m told Opal “people” often meditate on their pieces by gazing at the flashing colors.

Properly set Opal prevents damage to these colorful stones by bezel setting the entire stone in metal and extending the metal setting slightly above the stone. This protects the sides and the face and doesn’t detract from the attractiveness of the presentation.
